TEACHING LITERATURE WORKSHOPS

The Philippine Center of International PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists) through the Philippine PEN will hold a series of teaching literature workshops in Manila and in selected regions in the country this year.

This Project entitled “For Love of the Word: Workshops on Teaching Philippine Literature in High School and College”, is geared towards retooling and upgrading the skills of literature teachers, particularly those in the public schools, both at the secondary and tertiary levels.

After the success of the workshops held in Manila, Iloilo and Cebu Cities, the next workshops will be held on August 8 at the Juan Luna Hall, University of the Philippines (UP), Baguio City and on October 10 at the Science and Technology (ST) Annex, Naga College Foundation (NCF), Naga City, Bicol.

The workshops aim to:

a.             promote Philippine literature and to assert the continuing relevance in the educational curriculum and in nation-building;

b.             provide   critical  guidance  and  resource   materials  to  readers  and  teachers/educators;

c.             foster the reading habit to expand the readership of books especially of Philippine literature; and

d.             enable the authors to interact with their readers, the better way to get their feedback and to relate with them both intellectualy and creatively.

This Project is supported by PEN International in the United Kingdom and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The PEN will not charge any fee for the workshop.

The participants to the workshop in Baguio are teachers from various high schools and colleges in Baguio City and from the Cordillera region.

International Children’s Art and Culture Festival 2011

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S ART AND CULTURE FESTIVAL 2011

The Malaysia Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture (MICC), National Department for Culture and the Arts (NDCA), and the Prime Minister’s Department will conduct the International Children’s Arts and Culture Festival 2011 with the theme, “Amazing Kids” on December 6-12, 2011, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This activity aims to:

1.      recognize the exceptional children with artistic talents from the seven (7) participating countries;

2.      enhance their networking skills; and

3.      strengthen camaraderie among them.

Invited to participate in this Festival are children with artistic talents from the Philippines, Republic of Korea, China, Japan, Singapore, India, and Qatar.

The participants’ accommodation, transportation and meals in Malaysia will be borne by the Government of Malaysia.

ANNOUNCING THE REVISED CONTEST MECHANICS FOR THE SECOND RAIN WATCHERS AWARDS-PROJECT RAIN GAUGE

The Smart Communications, Inc. has revised the contest mechanics on the Rain Watchers Awards (RWA)-Project Rain Gauge (PRG).

This is to reiterate that the provisions in the contest mechanics enclosed in DepEd Memorandum No. 106, s. 2011 are still in effect except for the conduct of the regional judging. Thus, all the entries of the participating schools will no longer undergo the regional judging, but all of these will be included in the national judging set on the 4th week of October and there will be three (3) national winners only.

The Power Tips, which is the training division of Infochat will conduct its annual seminar entitled Tech Tutor 3-Paradigm Shift in ICT Learning to Reach the Unreached on September 27-28, 2011 at the SM Megatrade Hall 1, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

NATIONAL SEMINARS FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY ENGLISH TEACHERS

The International English Learners Training Institute, Inc. (IELTI), will conduct the National Seminars for Elementary and Secondary English Teachers in Tarlac City.

The first seminar will be held on September 8-10, 2011 at the San Isidro Transients’ Home Pavillion, San Isidro, Tarlac City. It aims to:

1.            help the participants become more capable and more confident to teach English in multiple contexts;

2.            make them appreciate literature by using various critical reading theories;

3.            demonstrate to them the different techniques in teaching English; and

4.            enable them to be more comfortable and enthusiastic with collaborative learning.

The second seminar will deal on the preparation of learning modules for literacy appreciation and ESL teaching. This will be held on November 24-26, 2011 in Tarlac City. It aims to:

1.            enable the participants to identify the theories and principles of materials design;

2.            help them develop and evaluate instructional materials; and

3.            assist them prepare learning modules for literary appreciation and ESL teaching.

The participants to this activity are school principals, administrators and English teachers from both public and private schools nationwide.

2011 “I TEACH SCIENCE SEMINAR” (ITSS)

 As part of the celebration of the National Science Club Month (NSCM) this September, the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) will conduct the “I Teach Science Seminar” on September 3, 2011. This will be held simultaneous with the National Club Summit, at eight (8) different regional sites including Pangasinan, Laguna, Bicol, Capiz, Cebu, Pagadian, Koronadal and Cagayan de Oro.

The seminar aims to:

1.      strengthen ties among the Chemistry teachers;

2.      give them pointers in teaching Chemistry;

3.      provide the participants with the latest updates in   the field of Chemistry;

4.      make them appreciate the relevance of Chemistry in education and in the society; and

5.      encourage active participation of the teachers and students in the NSCM celebration, and in the Science Clubbing Movement.

This is a half-day activity that is packed with lectures, workshops and discussions.

PAMBANSANG KUMPERENSIYANG PANGWIKA NG KWF: IKALAWANG SERYE

Bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2011, ang Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino ay magtataguyod ng Ikalawang Serye ng Pambansang Kumperensiyang Pangwika sa Bayview Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, United Nations Avenue, Manila sa Agosto 30-31, 2011.

Ang pangkalahatang paksa ng kumperensiya ay “Ang Filipino ay Wikang Panlahat, Haw at Lakas sa Tuwid na Landas.”
