2011 NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RESEARCH IN TEACHER EDUCATION (NCRTE)
The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, College of Education will hold the 2011 National Conference on Research in Teacher Education (NCRTE) with the theme New Trends in Teacher Education: Toward Enhancing Teacher Quality on October 20-21 at the College of Education, Benitez Theater, Diliman, Quezon City.
The conference aims to:
1. provide a forum for examining critical issues in education that affect the nation;
2. provide an opportunity for pre-service and practicing teachers to share research findings on new trends, experiences, and best practices in teaching and learning;
3. strengthen institutional goals in research and encourage dissemination and utilization of research findings;
4. identify emerging challenges and opportunities which may lead to the development of new strategies in educational policies, plans and programs, and mobilization of resources; and
5. build a community and network of researchers and educators to develop plans for future actions.
The conference organizer calls on all interested participants to submit abstract of paper for discussion during this event on the topics of Leadership in Education, Teaching and Learning, Assessment Practices and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education.
The abstract shall be submitted via e-mail not later than August 15, 2011. Owners of abstract that will be accepted shall be notified via e-mail by August 31, 2011. It should contain 250-300 words, full paper 8-10 pages including table and references, with arial or times new roman font size 12. All accepted research papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
The conference fees are: (1) PhP3,500.00 per person for on-site registration; (2) PhP3,000.00 per person for early bird on or before September 30, 2011; (3) PhP2,500.00 per person for those who register in advance; student rate shall not apply during on-site registration.

The organizer of the General Miguel Malvar Essay Writing Contest which was announced in DepEd Advisory No. 315, s. 2011 extends the deadline for submission of entries from August 31, 2011 to September 15, 2011.
This extension will allow more students to participate in said contest which is in commemoration of the 100th Death Centennial Anniversary of General Miguel Malvar, one of the country’s revolutionary generals and heroes.

40th INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S EXHIBITION OF FINE ARTS LIDICE 2012
The Lidice Memorial under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Czech Commission for UNESCO invites children to the 40th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts (ICEFA) Lidice 2012.
The ICEFA Lidice is a one round comptition which is open to children from four (4) to sixteen (16) years old, for all types of schools and organizations working with children-nursery schools, primary schools, primary art schools, special schools, leisure-time centres of children and youth, children’s houses, multi-year grammar schools and other secondary schools. Individuals can participate as well.
The 40th International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts features the following themes:
The Theatre – The Puppet – The Fairytale
• What I have seen in the puppet theatre, my favorite play, my theatre experience;
• My favorite puppet, how puppets look in my country;
• Fine art components of the theatre – the wings, the curtain, the make-ups and the costumes;
• Who works in the theatre-actors, stage directors, musicians, artists;
• The auditorium, the audience and the atmosphere of the theatre; and
• My favorite animated film, a draft poster for a film.
For Older Children
The history of theatre form the ancient times to the present and famous theatres at home and abroad.
The categories of the competition are the following:
1. Drawing, printing, printmaking;
3. Ceramics; and
4. Combined technique (sculptures, works made of metal, ceramics, wood glass, textile and paper).

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION ENTITLED “IF RIZAL HAD BEEN A BLOGGER, WHAT WOULD HE HAVE BLOGGED ABOUT?”
The Anvil Publishing Inc., in cooperation with the National Book Store (NBS) and the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) announces the nationwide launching of an essay-writing competition entitled “If Rizal Had Been a Blogger, What Would He Have Blogged About?” The deadline for submission of entries is August 5, 2011.
The competition is open to all high school students aged fourteen (14) to eighteen (18) years old studying in the Philippines. Only one student is allowed to win per school.
The following are the mechanics of the competition:
1. The high school students must personally research about the experiences and works of Jose Rizal as a novelist, and journalist letter-writer;
2. He/She must write an essay with at least eight hundred (800) words entitled “If Rizal Had Been a Blogger, What Would He Have Blogged About?”;
3. Each student should submit an original, unpublished, logical, cohesive and fluently developed essay which captures some of the issues and concerns in Rizal’s time as recorded in his many writings and correspondences;
4. Each manuscript should be typed or computer-printed on plain, white, letter-size paper with pages numbered consecutively and double-spaced, with writing on one side, with more than 12 characters per inch or no less than 10-point type and with total word count appearing at the end of the essay;
5. Each entry should be accompanied by a fully accomplished entry form cut out from the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Learning Section (photocopies not acceptable) and glued on a sheet of paper that serves as cover; and
6. Each entry must consist of the following: (a) the essay manuscript together with the fully accomplished entry form; (b) an endorsement from the student’s History or English teacher; and (c) a certification from the school principal that the entrant is a full-fledged secondary student of the school.

CORY, THE MUSICAL STAGE PLAY
The St. James College of Quezon City will hold the first musical play entitled “Cory, The Musical” on August 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., Meralco Theater, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.
