Luistro warns DepEd personnel against unaccredited HEIs
( PRESS RELEASE)
The Department of Education has directed its officials and personnel not to enroll in higher education institutions (HEIs) offering masteral and doctoral degree programs which are not recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
The directive was contained in DepEd Order No. 78 s. 2011 which orders that DepEd officials and personnel must refrain from enrolling in non-accredited colleges and universities offering higher education programs which are similarly not authorized.
“If we want to institute lasting reforms in our education system, we must fully cooperate with CHED by not patronizing HEIs which do not meet the standards set by the Commission,” said Education Secretary Armin Luistro.
Moreover, Luistro has instructed DepEd officials and personnel not to allow illegally operated HEIs to use any public school facilities as venues for holding unauthorized classes and other activities.
Teaching and non-teaching personnel are encouraged by DepEd to pursue higher education as a requirement for their promotion and upward mobility.
“Yes, we want an improving career path for our DepEd personnel but they must earn the requisite credentials the right way and in duly-accredited HEIs,” Luistro emphasized.
indeed a moral-boosting statement from our DepEd secretary with respect to those teachers who pursue their masteral or doctoral degree courses from the accredited institutions in spite of the easy and convenient offers of acquiring diploma and certificates ( non-appearance in the class or no thesis – no defense) from fly-by-night graduate school for as long as the price is right…BUT… I would like to challenge our honorable DepEd secretary Armin Luistro to haunt those teachers who have benefited the said “educators scam” and were even promoted to higher position in a short period of time while over-passing those who are conscientiously taking their time and effort to finish the course. Many teachers from compostela valley are applying for reclassification of their position to DepEd region XI but their credentials are coming from Cotabato CHED region XII… why then go to that far and risky place when in fact a lot of accredited colleges and universities are just in our neighborhood. Smells something fishy isn’t it? Calling the attention of our DepEd XI regional director Susana Teresa B. Estigoy for urgent cleansing and disinfecting your flock particularly in compostela valley division for we in the gov’t service don’t want our few remaining species to be instinct. Let us continue in line with President Pinoy’s backing “to walk in the right path”.
