DEVELOPMENT POLICY RESEARCH MONTH
The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) announces the celebration of the 9th Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) in September 2011 with the theme “Back to ABC: Education Development.”
In this regard, the PIDS, as the agency assigned to lead and coordinate the activities for the annual observance of the DPRM, invites all public and private schools to participate in the following suggested activities:
1. displaying prominently a banner/ streamer within the school premises containing this year’s DPRM theme;
2. featuring announcements about the DPRM and its theme in their various publication or dissemination outlets as well as in websites; and
3. organizing activities or events which have relevance in the presentation and discussion of the theme or which relate to policy research focusing on the subject matter.
A number of studies have indicated that education is the key lever to an individual’s having a better future and status in life, including potential higher incomes. On a larger scale, education is acknowledged to be an essential factor in the country’s fight against poverty.
Recognizing this, the 2011 theme of the DPRM focuses on the issues and challenges confronting the Philippine education sector. After several reviews and roadmaps done for the sector in the past, the following questions were asked: Where does the country stand? What concerns continue to face the education leaders and decision makers? Does the country’s education and its various services/aspects help the people address the challenges, among others, of globalization?
